What Is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics consists of treatments that straighten various malocclusions or bite misalignments. These procedures can address the alignment of your teeth and jaws to create an even and effective bite pattern. If you have crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth, then choosing an orthodontic treatment that straightens your smile makes it easier to brush and floss your teeth, which helps prevent cavities and gum disease.

We offer Phase 1 and Phase 2 orthodontics so your little one can enjoy consistent dental care throughout their journey to a straighter smile. Phase 1 orthodontics includes space maintainers, appliances, or limited braces and occurs when your child has some of their milk teeth and some of their permanent teeth. Phase 2 orthodontics occurs when all permanent teeth have erupted and can include appliances or braces depending on the severity of the bite misalignment.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners: If you have mild to moderate bite misalignment and you want to straighten your smile discreetly, then our Invisalign treatment may be right for you. This service consists of graduating clear plastic trays that apply pin-point pressure to gently shift your teeth into their optimal position. The trays are removable, and you must commit to wearing them for 22 hours daily to maintain your treatment progress. Due to the strict requirements of this treatment, we only offer Invisalign clear braces to responsible teens and adults.

Fastbraces®: If you have moderate to severe misalignment, then Fastbraces may be the solution you're looking for. This treatment consists of wires and brackets, but they focus on the roots of teeth instead of the crowns. This effective treatment can be completed in less time than traditional braces.

Traditional Braces: Braces are a time-tested and effective treatment for treating a broad range of alignment issues. They consist of metal wires and brackets and are available to teens and adults. Traditional braces are a great solution for those who don't want to worry about keeping track of removable clear trays or have more complex bite issues.

Our Orthodontic Process

Straightening your smile can feel intimidating, but our dental team's enthusiasm and support will help make it an enjoyable journey. From the moment you walk into our office, you know you're a priority. Our compassionate dentist will take the time to talk with you and listen so that we fully understand your needs and smile goals.

We begin with a gentle and thorough exam of your teeth and jaws to determine the severity of your misalignment. When we're working with kids and teens, we carefully monitor the development of their smile to catch any orthodontic issues early in order to prevent complex alignment problems. From there, our friendly dentist will discuss your orthodontic options with you and then craft a treatment plan that fits your needs, lifestyle, and goals.

Orthodontics FAQs

We are dedicated to providing quality dental care, including open dialogue about our services. Our team encourages you to ask questions and share your concerns, and we are happy to provide the answers you need to make an informed decision regarding your treatment plan. Here are some of the most common questions we receive about orthodontics.

Do I have to change my diet with Invisalign treatment?
No. Invisalign clear aligners are removable, so you don't have to change your diet. You will simply remove your invisible braces when you eat or drink. Once you have finished your meal, you will brush your teeth and put your aligners back in.

Do traditional braces hurt?
No. Braces are not painful, but you may experience some tenderness or feel sore after the arch wire is replaced or your braces are adjusted. However, this sensation should go away after a day or two. You can also take an over-the-counter pain reliever to alleviate any discomfort.

How do I clean my teeth while undergoing orthodontic treatment?
If you have Invisalign clear aligners, you will remove the trays and simply brush and floss your teeth twice daily. If you have traditional or Fastbraces, you will brush and floss your teeth twice daily. If you find it more complicated to clean food particles trapped under the arch wire, there are a variety of helpful tools, such as a "Christmas tree" brush, that are designed to keep your braces clean and boost your oral hygiene routine during treatment.
